FBFSEU provides a variety of services to our members. Our primary function remains the provision of collective bargaining, grievance handling and advocacy issues for members.
In addition we provide a range of welfare assistance by ay of scholarships, retirement and death benefits and workers education programs for our representatives.
A group medical and life insurance scheme is also available for memebsr and their families.
The Union provides a Medical Insurance scheme to members of the Union. We are insured with Dominion Insurance.

The Union provides a Life Insurance scheme with its insurers (Colonial Life and Health) for its members and their spouse below the age of 64 years.
This is a Term Life, Personal Accident and TPD (Total Permanent Disability) policy for F$50,000.00
Rates paid will be as follows: |

Total Permanent Disability Benefit payed to Life Insured if he suffers Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) as a result of an injury or illness which occured while this cover was in force, the Insured has been unable to engage in any business or occupation or to perform any and all work for compensation or profit for a continuous period of six months, and, in the opinion of Colonial, will be unable to ever undertake any such work. |
Amount payable shall be a lump sum payment for the amount set alongside the Insured's name as the Sum Insured for TPD in the schedule of the Policy
(Benefits 1 - 26) |
Members leaving employment from their current organization may continue with this policy under the same terms and conditions with the same or less sum insured without any evidence of health, provided you have not reached 65 years of age provided that: |
(a.) |
you have not left employment for reason of duty with armed forces. |
(b.) |
you have not left employment because of ill health. |
(c.) |
any special condition, premium or endorsement applicable to you will continue |
(d.) |
you notify Colonial by completing their relevant forms |
(e.) |
the premium payable will be determined from Colonial’s then current premium rates. |
To join please request for an original form from the Union office (phone 3301827). Fill it in and send it back to the Union office who will then forward the form to Colonial. Colonial will then give us your premium rate which you can have deducted from source and sent to our office. This will be forwarded to Colonial.
You can also take out a cover for your spouse. |

The Union operates a credit union called the “FSU Thrift & Credit Co-op Limited”
This scheme is open to all members of the Union, Forms are available from the Union Office or online.
Together with the membership form you need to fill in an authority to your organization for deduction of contributions.

Members can apply for assistance for tuition or any academic related expenses where eligible for one child and benefit reduces to 50% and 25% for a subsequent application each term.
If application for more than one child per term then again same reduction ratio applies.
Benefits are restricted to cases of extreme and proven financial hardship only.
